I lived in North Braddock, PA, from approximately 1952–1962 (ages four to 14). I attended a junior high school a few blocks from the library. I became a regular user around 1959, often walking over two miles from my home. I remember this big stone building. I loved walking up the front stairs and entering the big doors. The librarian introduced me to the Nancy Drew series. From there, I started exploring the stacks and found the travel writing section. There was an author who wrote wonderful tales of his travels to exotic places. I particularly remember descriptions of India. This got me interested in other cultures and I ended up choosing anthropology as my college minor. As an adult, I continue to love and support libraries. I served on our local board twice, and now I am an active member of our Friends organization.
