The Carnegie Library 250 gift will be used for purchasing a bookmobile, equipment, and/or expenses that will be related to this outreach.
We have been doing some research back to when we got the Carnegie Library back in 1905 and reading about how important libraries have always been to our city of Grand Island. We have evolved over the years with a newer library. Our old Carnegie is restored and being used as a real estate office. Our current main and only library, built in 1974, has seen its space doubled, and it’s still being supported and used by the community. We realize now in 2026 that a bookmobile will be needed to help to bridge gaps with people that can’t or don’t make it to the library. We will work on building more relationships with our growing diverse community and work on promoting the love of reading, especially getting books in children’s hands and getting more people to our main library, which is a community center for our city. A bookmobile and outreach help to improve the quality of life by giving everyone a chance to read, use the internet, and use other library services. We carry on. Andrew Carnegie would be happy.
