I grew up in Akron, a very small town in Indiana. When I was in third grade (80 years ago), I would walk to the Carnegie Library, check out an armful of books, take them home to read, take them back to the library, and check out another armload. Probably the Carnegie Library had something to do with my becoming a teacher for 30 years for children who had trouble learning to read. I always have two books going: my day book and my reading-in-bed book.
