Charlotte Community Library received its first building (then called Charlotte Public Library) from Andrew Carnegie in 1894. The library existed in that building very happily for many years, and patrons still come in and tell us of all the happy memories they have of that original building!
We were very grateful to receive the $10,000 gift from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation! We used some of the money to have an extra special Summer Reading Kickoff party! Thanks to the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, we were able to offer all Kickoff participants food truck food, prizes, games, crafts, and much more — at absolutely no cost! We had hundreds of participants and would not have been able to serve our community in this way without the generous donation from the Carnegie Foundation!
Over the next year, we will be using the remainder of the funds to offer extra programs for all ages, including local history programs that highlight this wonderful community and the role the library has played for the last 132 years.
