I am the director of our small local Carnegie Library. I have been in this position for ten years now and can honestly say that it has shaped and changed my life.
I have enjoyed so many different aspects of my job at the library. At times, it seems surreal that it is a job when it gives me so much.
While we try to be there for the entire community as much as possible, and certainly there are any number of fantastic stories to tell… I would say that my favorite part is being there for the children. There is nothing better than helping a child learn to love the library. Helping them pick out a book, find a new challenge to read, or just see the latest installment in their favorite series is so fulfilling.
But even more rewarding yet is watching the joy on their faces as they realize they can be a part of their own experience. Our favorite part is the free bookmarks that we give them. It seems so simple, but the expression on their face is always worth it.
